Music at St. John’s

With acoustics reputed to be among the best in the State of Maine, St. John’s Episcopal Church has always maintained excellence in music.  Our Choral program has a storied tradition and we are blessed to have a Berkshire organ, as well as a grand piano, and a harpsichord.  In addition to our music offerings for services, St. John’s also regularly hosts choral and instrumental performances.

Choir Program

Choral music continues to be an integral part of the Episcopal Eucharist, and the choir of St. John’s takes great joy in being a part of this tradition.  The choir, under the direction of Colin Graebert, sings a wide variety of repertoire from the 14th to the 21st centuries, including anthems, canticles, hymns, plainsong chant, and Anglican chant.  From September to June, the choir sings at the 10:00 am Sunday Eucharist, and at special services such as Choral Evensong, Advent Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and Easter morning.
